Why doesn't the government...?

realize if they stopped abusing their power for their own selfish gain ( amnesty for illegals, gun control, over taxation, pork, and general expansion of government powers beyond their powers as defined by the constitution) they could keep their jobs and there will be no need for a second civil war? are politicians that stupid that they don't believe history can and will repeat itself?
