Does anyone know how to slove this?

Prove that at any given time there is a pair of points directly opposite to each other on the equator of the earth that have exactly the same temperature. Hint: ume that the equator of the earth is the circle (x + y = r), and use the zero intermediate value theorem on an appropriately defined function.
