What special treats can i feed my betta fish? Which foods will be best for color enhancement?

My betta, Stephen, is a dull blue, and I want to keep him healthy. A clerk at a petstore mentioned that vibrant colors are a sure sign of a healthy betta fish. Is this true? Which foods would be best for his health? I feed him regular betta pellets and try to add bits of soft pea weekly.
