When did you realise that you were not really good at the things you wanted to be good at?

As a girl growing up, I learned all the "womanly arts" like knitting, crochet, dressmaking. I continued to pursue these activities into my 30's, until one day after yet another disastrous effort with the needles, I decided that I was terrible at these things. I gave away all the paraphernalia to charity, and since then I've never tried to return to those arts. I occasionally do a little sewing - taking up a hem or something- but otherwise I'm quite happy to admit "I'm no good at it ".
